With all the threads delving into the pros and cons of development, I'm surprised no one has commented on the building code change allowing for the construction of 4 story buildings...
When and where did you hear that?
Strange that no one on the island has heard anything about that. You must be very well connected!
How is it that someone in Beloit, WI would know about building code changes here even before our elected officials know?
I have never been to Beloit.
You might want some remedial training in the intricasy and serendipity of IT.
I know this the same way I know Marty was on the late morning flight from SPR to BZE and thence the 12:30 CO flight(time adjusted for actual departure) to IAD 12/15 carrying a 4 foot parcel with the pony-tailed gringo(!).
I believe any property owner up-to-speed(and many are) would be aware of this issue..."...gee, at the price of ocean front property we can't make it cash flow at 3 stories..."...yada yada...
Perhaps you don't know all the elected officials know?
Thats odd...your IP address is in Beloit.
Why is Martys travel included here? What's the connection?

You are not listening...

Just to confirm that the IP has nothing to do with the origin...
Tomorrows edition of the San Pedro Daily may smoke the 4 storey rumour out of hiding.
So, now there is a 4 storey(sic/Brit) rumour(sic)?
Problems with your US spel chequer?
yehs (and, noe).
With the new proposed tax it will be zero stories!
Did hear a rumour about a 4-story project across the cut; figured it was just one of those storys..
Some years ago when AquaMarina Suites was going up the locals discovered an under-table permit to go to 4 storeys. All hell broke loose with demonstrations, marches, threats, political retribution, etc. until finally the permit was withdrawn. I wonder if that will happen again next time someone tries for that fourth floor?
Next time it will be legal.
It was "legal" the last time...
How tall is the new "Oasis" addition?
Just because a eager developer may have "lobbied" and "persuaded" a local official into kindly accepting his plans (especially this close to Christmas) doesn't equate to it happening here on La Isla.
I wouldn't count on it, until the plans are approved by all levels of Gov't.

It didn't happen this time and a precedent appears to have been set. There have been many, well attended meetings on this subject - perhaps not widely publized, but the papers knew about them.
Beach front land is at a premium and the only way to build is up.
Which makes the land so valuable. Just over 20 miles of beach on AC and you can't build up!
I have searched the last two editions of the SP Daily and can not find any referance to "Smoking Out The 4 Story Rumor". Whats up 'J'? Is it true or not?
well, well, well,
sandb has made ears perk up like a dog smelling a rabbit. we seem to have another teaser on the board this am. i guess when it is later, we will get the entire story (storey). it appears that any more at this time would be a breach of trust.
probably, the moral of the story (storey) is money talks & 3 floors high walks.
The ultimate rub: you can have 4 stories, but NOT an elevator!!! hehe
I'm all for 4 storeys. But only after we get proper roads.
What happened to the monorail plan?
me and the founders of the DOG party are not for the proposed 4 story plan, if you support the DOG party than you must rally for your rights.
the DOG party :is not referring to the dog animal, it merely stands for something that all expats are on the island as said so by the locals.
Hey, I think I resemble that remark!
Jesse, you said you would "Smoke out the rumor" of the 4 story building last Sunday. I still can't find any info in the SP Daily. Is it true or not? Just curious.
Picture was in todays SP Paper, count them, 4 stories high.
If pic was real, just checking.
My vote, 4 max until 2020
San Pedro papers come out on Wed. now?
No, the thursday papers come out on Fridays.
Except for holidays and goma daze...
where's the story on the storeys?
If you consider the roof deck a fourth floor, then I guess the Alijua Building was the first four story building on AC.
SIN
Is that building 3 at Oasis del Caribe?
Thank god for the 3 foot railing!
If that picture is "Smoking the Rumor out", guess I missed something cause I'm still in the fuzzy zone.
Storey: structure consisting of a room or set of rooms comprising a single level of a multilevel building;
Guess perhaps the building in the pic satisfies some lawyer's definition of 4 storeys
