Police patrols in the west and south received a boost today with the handing over of brand new wheels from the Ministry of National Security. The Cayo District received a Mahindra truck and two motorcycles which will serve the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. Meanwhile, the Stann Creek Formation also received a new truck along with six motorcycles to be deployed to Dangriga, Pomona, the Valley Community, Hopkins, Independence Area and Bella Vista. O.C.'s Ralph Moody for Cayo and Robert Mariano for Stann Creek were at the Police Headquarters in Belmopan to receive the keys along with outgoing Commissioner of Police David Henderson and the ComPol designate, Allen Whylie. Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, says he expects improved performance in the districts with the help of today's donation.

"It's a part of the continuing process of improving the equipment and infrastructure for the Police Department. Today we are handing over two vehicles and ten motorcycles to Dangriga Formation, the San Ignacio Formation; one vehicle for San Ignacio and some of the motorcycles for Dangriga and some of the villages in the Stann Creek District and also for the San Ignacio formation. So this is all part of our effort to improve and to equip the police so that they can better respond to crime prevention and also crime detection. So we believe this will go a long way in assisting the police in these areas to do a better job."

Two motorcycles were also donated to the Belize District for the Ladyville and Hattieville areas.
