GOB announce motorcade for volleyball team - 08/12/18 10:59 AM
The Government of Belize through the Ministry of Education recently issued their congratulations to the Belize National Volleyball Team on winning the silver medal during the 20th Central American Women's Volleyball Championship.
In honor of the team's recent achievements and stellar performance displayed during the five-day tournament the governement will be hosting a motorcade through the principal streets of Belize City on August 13th, 2018 starting at 2:30 p.m. at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.
The release states, 'It is noted with great pride by the government that the country offered overwhelming support to the team during the games and so commends the nation for uniting in this regard."
Congratulations were also issued to the team for winning the Best Spiker, Best Scorer, Best Opposite and Best Setter as well as the player's dedication, the Belize Volleyball Association and everyone who played a role in the team's development and preparation.
The public is encouraged to show their support and come out for the motorcade which will commence on Princess Margaret Drive, travel through Douglas Jones Street, Youth for the Future Drive, Vernon Street, Magazine Street, Cemetery Road, Orange Street, Albert Street, Yarborough Road, Central American Boulevard and will end in front of the Civic Center for an official acknowledgment ceremony.
The team's first upset during the tournament was beating Costa Rica who remained undefeated for fifteen years. They then went on to the grand finale showdown against the Guatemalan Selection and again came out victorious, and sparking off great pride from Belizean fans.
The tournament was hosted at the Belize Civic Center.
