We join in congratulating Belizean-born Defensive Tackle (# 56) Rakeem Nuez-Roches of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he wins his first Super Bowl Championship ring. Roches was born in Dangriga Town, Stann Creek in southern Belize and later moved to the United States at an early age.

The 27 year old was part of the defensive line that smothered quarterback Patrick Mahomes and led the Bucs to a 31-9 victory.

Congratulations Rakeem & the Tampa Bay Bucs!

From the time the Garifuna and Belizean people heard that Rakeem Nunez Roches' team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were going to play in Super Bowl-LV (55), Garifuna and Belizean Americans were all excited to see this game, and they were glued to their televisions yesterday. I started watching the game from the beginning and the way Tampa Bay was playing, I got the feeling that they were going to win the game. Their offensive and defensive game were in full force and they played like hungry lions.

When Rakeem Roches Nunez first came into the NFL he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015 and played for them up until 2017. After two years with that team, they traded him to the Indianapolis Colts who then traded him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he has played since. He was given the opportunity to play against his old team the Kansas City Chiefs, which from my own experience playing football (soccer) was emotional stress. When a player joins a team, they all become members of one family. They must look out for each other to develop that team spirit in order to win. Anything that happens to one player affects all the players and staff of the team. Most players did not win games and championships because they were not outstanding players in their sports. Many of them gave their games all they could have possibly given but still lost some of the games.

Belizean Super Bowl champion Rakeem Roches has ties with San Pedro; BTB offers Belizean vacation

Rakeem Nuez-Roches is no stranger in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye as his brother, Raoul 'Thumpy' Roches, plays with the renowned island basketball team, the Tiger Sharks. Like his brother, Thumpy is a talented athlete and has contributed immensely to the island's basketball team. He is also a champion after winning the National Elite Basketball League with Tiger Sharks in 2015 and was recognized with an individual award for his outstanding performance.

While Raoul stayed in Belize, Rakeem moved to the United States at an early age, where he reportedly developed his talent via an in-school program from primary through high school. The same year Raoul became a NEBL champion with Tiger Sharks in Belize, the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Rakeem in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL draft. Three years later, the Chiefs dropped him, and the Buccaneers picked him up where he plays Defensive Tackle (# 56).

To honor Roches' victory, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) tweeted 'the Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations look forward to welcoming you to Belize,' tagging Rakeem and Brady. According to reports, the vacation offered to them will at the expense of the BTB. It is unknown if Roches or Brady have responded to the invitation to visit the Jewel.
