Belize Weather Forecast: February 13, 2013

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Mainly fair and dry weather conditions prevail.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today and clear tonight. Showers will be isolated with the chance of an isolated thunderstorms inland this afternoon.
Winds: East - southeast 10-20 knots.
Marine Forecast: Today: Winds: E-SE 10-20 kt; seas: Moderate; waves: 4-6 ft.; little or no rainfall. Outlook: (Thursday night):- Winds: E 5-15 kt; seas: Choppy; waves: 3-5 ft.;isolated showers.
Sea Surface Temp (°F): 81
Outlook: For Thursday and Thursday night is for cloudy spells with isolated showers especially over the north and coast and the development of isolated afternoon thunderstorms inland.

On Ambergris Caye this morning we have clear sky and high winds. the expected high is 86. The sea is even rougher than yesterday when we had the Advisory.The wind is from the East at approx. 20 kts and its very rough.

Thanks. There is a lot of salty mist in the the air from the waves crashing on the reef and it's a magnifier.

I saw a dive boat outside the reef yesterday and was a little angry that some dive company obviously need the money bad enough to risk it.San Pedro needs a Port Authority to close the Port when we have dangerous sea states.
Accidents need rescuers and rescuers are then in Jeopardy. Its not just risking the lives of their own passengers but they put at risk the people that try and save them.March is coming and we will see a lot of this foolish behavior.

Couldn't agree more. But it begs the question...who are the rescuers? What capabilities exist on the island? What is their availability, level of training, experience (practice), etc.?

Begs the question indeed - AND scares the poop outta my wetsuit! The best rescuers are still at the mercy of an angry sea.
