The Caribbean Sea

There are four tropical waves moving across the basin. An upper level trough is extending from the central Atlantic to the north-central Caribbean and is enhancing scattered moderate convection off the coast of Hispaniola. Isolated thunderstorms are reaching the SW basin from convection being enhanced by the East Pacific monsoon trough, S of 12N and between 76W-83W. Fair weather prevails across the remainder of the basin, outside of the areas near the tropical waves. Scatterometer data depicts moderate to fresh trades in the central Caribbean with light to gentle trades elsewhere.

A tropical wave over the Gulf of Honduras will move inland early this morning. Another tropical wave south of the Mona Passage will move across the central Caribbean today and Saturday, then exit the western Caribbean Sunday into Monday. Strong easterly winds will follow over the tropical wave across the south central Caribbean and coast of Colombia Saturday through Sunday. A third tropical wave will enter the eastern Caribbean Sunday night, move across the eastern Caribbean Monday and across the central Caribbean through Tuesday night.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the sky is overcast and the wind is from the SE at 11 mph. Last night's high wind and rain did some slight damage to a few things such as signs, flags, beach furniture and looks to have been strong. The expected high temperature for the day is 88 f.

All very confused weather around us this morning. There have been many ITCZ swellups all around us, In Mexico, Guatamala and Honduras over night and by morning the active area was out in the Caribbean producing a lot of rain out there, but only a few showers on Belize. Right now, the large area of rain is just drying up and not coming towards Belize. A lot of the confused cloud movement is the out pouring of the tops of the swellups, you can see the remains of a shock wave going up the top of the Yucatan. Else where the high level is largely being caused by the tops of the swellups. The low level easterly Caribbean winds have been disrupted and will take a while to resume.

Looks like this morning will continue cloudy, but with little or no rain, there could be some isolated rain this afternoon.

Re: Belize Weather Forecast: August 9, 2019 - 08/09/19 04:45 PM

The low level, easterly Caribbean winds, white arrows, is beginning to redevelop again. The easterly Caribbean winds are driven by the Suns movement and so they follow the sun, more or less. There are two different areas of high level, orange arrows, the one over the Caribbean is just the results of the large swellup, very large Cumulonimbus_cloud that was and is still causing rain out at sea. The regular high level is from the WNW and presently having little effect, but it did cause all those swellups over night. But there appears to be a mid-level, yellow arrows, circular movement, anti-clockwise usually indicates a low pressure area.
