There are two tropical waves currently impacting the eastern Caribbean. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are seen moving across the Lesser Antilles from 10N-17N between 60W-65W. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms are moving across the NW Caribbean from 16N-21N between 79W-89W. Numerous strong convection is moving off the Colombian coast, enhanced by the eastern Pacific monsoon trough, from 09N- 11N and E of 77W. Latest scatterometer data depicts light to gentle trades across the basin, with moderate to fresh winds are noted in the Gulf of Honduras and the Gulf of Venezuela.

Moderate to fresh trade winds will dominate much of the basin. Long period northerly swell will starting pushing through the Atlantic Ocean passages today. A tropical wave over the western Caribbean Sea will move west of the basin through mid week. Scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds accompany a second tropical wave currently in the eastern Caribbean that will move across the central Caribbean Sea Wednesday and Thursday, and through the western Caribbean Sea Friday and Saturday. A low pressure center developing east of the area will move toward the Atlantic Ocean offshore waters of the Leeward Islands by late Thursday and Friday, possibly as a tropical cyclone.

Forecasters continued to closely monitor a tropical disturbance over the open Atlantic Monday. The system, dubbed 97L, first caught the eye of meteorologists late last week, and they caution that further development is expected.

AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski said the system bears watching for progression to a tropical depression and perhaps even the ninth named storm of the Atlantic season.

"We expect this feature to become a tropical depression, and [it] may go on to become Tropical Storm Imelda later this week," according to Kottlowski.

"Early indications suggest this feature will track east of the United States mainland, but it is way too early to say with confidence as to exactly where it will track beyond Friday," Kottlowski said.

Most of the heavy convection associated with a westward-moving tropical wave that impacted the Lesser Antilles Sunday evening through Monday is now west of the islands over the Caribbean Sea. However, parts of St Lucia, Barbados, St Vincent, The Grenadines and Puerto Rico are still experiencing similar conditions. Bands of showers and thunderstorms are presently noted crossing over St Lucia (mainly south and west) and over parts of St Vincent, The Grenadines and Barbados.

Conditions will improve over those islands in the coming hours as the remaining convection pushes off to the west. The other islands in the Lesser Antilles can expect widely scattered showers as the entire region is still unstable

On Ambergris Caye this morning the sea is calm and a wind is from the East at 10 mph. The expected high temperature for the day is 88f. Early morning rain showers create rainbows over the lagoon side of the island often. I need to turn around and look to the West occasionally.

Beautiful rainbow!!!!!!

The easterly Caribbean winds presently have just a few lines of cloud. There is just a trace of high level trying to push from the WNW, the warm ar from the south appears to be stopping, but it did lead to a very warm night.

Looks like today will eventually be mainly sunny, with clouds developing this morning, only a small chance of some rain showers.
