The Caribbean Sea

A gale is along the coast of N Colombia. 10-30 kt tradewinds are over the remainder of the Caribbean Sea with weakest winds over the Yucatan Channel. Scattered showers are over the Caribbean S of 20N, moving W. In the upper levels, a ridge is over the Caribbean with axis along 81W. Strong subsidence covers the entire area suppressing deep convection.

High pressure north of the area will support fresh to strong trades across the central Caribbean through Thu night, pulsing to gale force off the coast of Colombia each night. High pressure will weaken north of the area Thu night, helping to diminish winds Fri and Sat. Long-period N to NE swell will move across the Tropical N Atlantic waters through Thu, then subside Fri and Fri night.

A band of rain patches went over much of the country during the night, due to a lot of cloud in the easterly Caribbean winds pushing against some earlier cool air. This will me moving away during the morning. There is more cloud out in the Caribbean that will come in later today.

Looks like today will be a mixture of sunshine, cloud and quite possibly more rain around about midday, or so, more likely in the north, but could be central as well.
