Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There is a tropical wave moving across the basin, and the next one is approaching the Lesser Antilles.

A high pressure ridge extends just north of the Bahamas. The resulting pressure gradient is causing moderate to fresh E trades across the basin, with strongest winds prevailing just north of Colombia. Most of the Caribbean is covered by a moderate Saharan Air Layer/African Dust event, though visibilities are only slightly inhibited. Scattered moderate convection prevails in the SW Caribbean and Central America in connection with a tropical wave and the NE Pacific monsoon trough.

High pressure prevails north of the area supporting fresh to strong trades across the south central Caribbean into the end of the week. Pulses of fresh winds are also possible in the Gulf of Honduras over the next few nights. A tropical wave is currently moving across the west Caribbean with convection, while the next one will approach the Leeward Islands by mid-week.

Tropical Wave | INVEST 96L: Some slow development of this system is possible during the next couple of days but after that time, environmental conditions should become less conducive for development. Though it is NOT expected to be a cyclone at the time it crosses the area, interests in the area should monitor the progress of this system.

Re: Belize Weather Forecast: June 29, 2020 - 06/29/20 04:18 PM

There was a large ITCZ swellup over south Belize during the night, causing heavy rains down south, but its effects did come up as far as Belmopan. That has now subsided and drifting away with the Caribbean winds, but the top of the swell up was going out in all directions and is now going eastwards over the Caribbean, the NASA satellite pictures were not working earlier. It now looks as if the high level cloud is only over southern Belize and the easterly Caribbean winds over all Belize now.

Looks as if typical sun and cloud over most of Belize, more high cloud over the south, a possibility of rain this afternoon.
