Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly cloudy this morning, clear in San Pedro. An increase in shower activity is expected later today and tonight.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Sunny skies with a few cloudy spells today, becoming cloudy tonight. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur mostly over southern and coastal areas later this afternoon, then increasing over most areas tonight.
Winds: E-NE, 5-15 kts
Sea State: Light chop
Waves: 2-4 ft.

Outlook: Cloudy skies with sunny breaks and a few showers or thunderstorms along coastal areas Saturday morning, then becoming generally isolated Saturday afternoon and night.
Sargassum Forecast from August 11, 2020 to August 19, 2020: Observations show several sargassum mats along and offshore coastal areas of the country. These mats will continue drifting in during the next few days with moderate to major impacts on beaches across the country. San Pedro has a high probability and a major expected impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: At 3:00am the center of Tropical Storm Josephine was located near 15.3N latitude, 53.3W longitude or about 680mls ESE of the Northern Leeward Islands. Click for more...

There is a strong tropical wave moving into the western Caribbean and it will have an impact on Central America into the weekend.

Also, please see the Special Features section above for details on Tropical Storm Josephine that will pass well north and east of the Leeward Islands this weekend.

Elsewhere across the region, dry air is precluding showers and thunderstorms across the basin, aside from some isolated fast- moving trade showers between 62W and 68W.Fres h to strong trade winds will continue across the south- central Caribbean through tonight, with strongest winds expected near the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela.

Josephine continues west-northwestward

Tropical Storm Josephine is tracking to the west-northwest at 15 mph. People in the Leeward Islands and the eastern Greater Antilles should closely monitor the track and intensity of developing Josephine; however, model trends over the past 48 hours steer the track of TROPICAL STORM Josephine north of both the Leewards and Greater Antilles Island chains.

On Ambergris Caye this morning the sky is clear and the sea calm. We have a NE breeze at 12 mph and expected high temperature of 88 f.

There are large ITCZ swellups all along the Nicaragua and Honduras coasts, which is being brought into southern Belize by the easterly Caribbean winds. There is already some rain in Toledo from all this and probably more coming in. Too early to be sure yet, but it would well spread into central Belize later today.

Looks like a sunny morning with increasing cloud for most of Belize, but heavy cloud in parts of south Belize with rain.

Very significant rain in Belmopan right now, in that small orange circle, yet you can't see much cloud there.
There is a trace of thin high level cloud from the south which is probably aggravating some clouds in central Belize into dropping rain. The real rain is moving up, through southern Belize at present.

Present Condition: Mostly cloudy, some clear skies in the north, rain is moving towards the north. Relatively moist and unstable conditions will prevail during the next 24 hours with a gradual improvement.
24hr Forecast: Cloudy spells with a few showers and thunderstorms over the southern districts and along the coast this afternoon, spreading to most places tonight into tomorrow morning, decreasing. A small craft caution is in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms. A flood watch is in effect for low-lying and flood prone areas.
