The Caribbean Sea

A dissipating cold front extends across the NW Caribbean Sea from 21N77W in central Cuba to near 20N88W in the northern Yucatan peninsula. Isolated showers and gusty north to northeast winds are associated with the front.

Broken to overcast low level clouds, and isolated showers, span the rest of the Caribbean Sea. The clouds and isolated moderate precipitation are moving with the easterly low level wind flow.

The dissipating cold front will move southward and weaken across the NW Caribbean through Saturday morning. Strong high pressure north of the area will support fresh to strong winds across the south-central Caribbean through Tuesday, with gale conditions expected near the coast of northern Colombia Saturday night. Large northerly swell will propagate through the NE Caribbean passages and into the Tropical N Atlantic waters through the weekend, with the largest swell expected Saturday night through Sunday night. A second cold front is forecast to approach the NW Caribbean on Monday.

Re: Belize Weather Forecast: January 29, 2021 - 01/29/21 03:11 PM

The cool air is coming down over the Yucatan and forcing the Caribbean air to also come down from the NE. The Caribbean winds have a lot of cloud in it covering the whole of north and central Belize, yet the surface wind is from the west, so the cool air is coming in from the west under the Caribbean air, causing a blanket of cloud or high level fog.

The high level blanket fog should thin later this morning, but probably still remain very cloudy for most of Belize, I can not detect if there is any rain or not.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 22C 71F Yesterday 29C 84F Yesterday Rain 15 mm ( 0.6")

Re: Belize Weather Forecast: January 29, 2021 - 01/29/21 06:50 PM

Feels to me, as if the surface cool air from the west this morning is now being reversed by the Caribbean wind.

The cool air clearly did get out to the east under the Caribbean air and into the sea, but is being stopped by the Caribbean air, so we have a lot of cloud in north and central Belize which is causing some patches of rain, presently just light rain.

Present Condition: Mostly cloudy except in the deep south. Relatively moist conditions prevail. A small craft warning will go into effect later tonight for rough seas.

24hr Forecast: Skies will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain and a few showers affecting most places this afternoon, lingering over the southern district tomorrow.

Outlook: Some cloudy spells with periods of rain and isolated showers lingering mainly over the southern districts Saturday afternoon with activity gradually decreasing by Sunday morning; while shower activity will be generally isolated elsewhere.
