Belize Weather Forecast: February 8, 2021


General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly clear and sunny. Mainly fair and warm weather prevails.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today and partly cloudy tonight. Mainly fair weather will prevail, with only isolated showers developing.
Winds: E-SE, 5-15 kts
Sea State: Choppy
Waves: 3-5 ft.
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 80
Outlook: For Tuesday and Tuesday night is for a few cloudy spells along with the chance of a few showers developing mostly over the north and near some coastal areas. Otherwise, showers will be isolated.
Sargassum Forecast from February 3 to February 10: There continues to be a medium chance of Sargassum affecting local beaches in the coming days producing moderate impacts. San Pedro has a medium probability and a moderate expected impact.

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There are pulsing gale conditions near the coast of Colombia. Fresh to strong trade winds are noted across most of the east and central Caribbean. Moderate to fresh E-SE winds are observed from the Gulf of Honduras north to the Yucatan Channel. Seas of 8 to 12 ft can be found in the central Caribbean while 3 to 6 ft Are observed in the eastern and western Caribbean. A cluster of thunderstorms has developed just SE of Jamaica, otherwise dry conditions prevail, aside from isolated fast moving showers embedded in the trade wind flow in the NE Caribbean.

High pressure north of the Caribbean Sea will support fresh to strong trade winds over the south central Caribbean into Fri night. Winds will pulse to gale force nightly through Tue off the coast of Colombia.

On Ambergris Caye this morning it's sunny and windy. Today's expected high-temperature is f 88 f. The wind is from the East at 17 mph causing the sea state around our barrier reef to be rough.

Flood Report and Forecast for February 8, 2021

River Conditions

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman and Douglas, levels are near normal and falling. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia levels are above normal and falling.

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER reservoir levels at all BECOL facilities are below the spillway; while at San Ignacio, levels are below the low-level bridge and steady. Levels on the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town are above normal and steady.

The BELIZE RIVER at Double Run is above normal and falling. The CROOKED TREE LAGOON is above normal and continues to fall.

REGION 11 - Levels on the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun is near normal and steady. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village is normal and falling. The watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS are normal and steady. The SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge is normal and steady. The Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER are below normal and falling. Levels on the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank are below normal and steady. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South are below normal and steady. On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South and Jordan levels are near normal and steady. On the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco levels are below normal and steady.

REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER levels are normal and steady.

FLOOD FORECAST

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman and Douglas to the coast, a minimal increase in river levels is expected. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia, a minimal increase in river levels is expected.

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER, reservoir levels are expected to remain below the spillway at all BECOL facilities; at San Ignacio, levels are expected to remain below the low-level bridge. On the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town, no significant change is expected.

On the BELIZE RIVER at Double Run, normal and steady levels are expected. On the CROOKED TREE LAGOON, levels are expected to continue to decrease slowly.

REGION 11 - On the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun, levels are expected to decrease to below normal over the next few days. On the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point, no significant change is expected. In watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS, normal and steady levels are expected. On the SITTEE RIVER, at Kendal Bridge normal and steady levels are expected. On the Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER, no significant change is expected. On the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank no significant change is expected. On the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South no significant change is expected over the next few days. Levels on the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco no significant change is expected.

REGIONS 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER, no significant change is expected over the next few days.

The SE Caribbean winds have taken over control again.

Looks like it will be a sunny day, small amounts of cloud around, probably more cloud later. No rain expected.

Present Condition: Clear and sunny. Mainly fair and warm weather conditions continue across the country.

24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny skies during the daytime and partly cloudy skies tonight. Showers will be isolated over most areas, except for the chance of a few showers developing over northern and some coastal areas tomorrow morning.

Outlook: For Tuesday afternoon through to midday Wednesday is for mainly fair weather with only isolated showers.
