Shooting in San Pedrito
Police have confirmed a shooting incident in the San Pedrito Area. Initial information indicates that three persons were injured. No further report is available at this time.

Belize's Cabinet undergoes reshuffling
On August 10th the Government of Belize released an updated list of Cabinet and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) within the Ministries of governance. This marks the third reshuffling of the Cabinet since the last General Election in 2015. The first change in Cabinet came on August 1, 2016, nine months after Prime Minister Dean Barrow installed the members of his Cabinet and Senate who would be assisting him in running the country for the 2015-2020 term. The urgent reshuffling on August 2016 came after corruption scandals within the Ministry of National Security erupted, and when key Cabinet Ministers were alleged to be associating with accused murdered and international con-artist William 'Danny' Mason.

Caye Talkers Donates $10,000 to Hope Haven Children's Shelter
Raise Me Up has received a donation of $10,000 towards the Hope Haven (Children's Shelter) project by Caye Talkers Limited, located in Belize City. Raise Me Up board members received this donation at the shelter, which is currently under construction, located across from the Maya Island Air terminal. Raise Me Up will utilize this substantial donation to assist in the completion of the development phase of the project, and it comes at a time that is crucial to purchase the necessary construction materials to complete the first floor, which will serve as the community center (operated by SHINE). The donation not only allows for the purchase of materials, but shows the commitment of Belize-local organizations that endorse the need for a children's home and services center on the island of Ambergris Caye. Caye Talkers joins the list of Belizean company donations towards Raise Me Up and its projects, alongside Belize Bank Limited, Atlantic International Bank, Belize Telemedia Limited, and Benny's along with Grand Caribe.

Shark fishing season comes to a close; Marine conservationists continue advocating for shark protection
The Belize Fisheries Department (BFD) is reminding licensed fishermen and the public in general that the shark fishing season officially closed from August 1st until October 31, 2017. At such, everyone is also reminded that no person or establishment shall have in possession any shark meat during the closed period. The fishing activity continues to cause controversy within environmental organizations in Belize. In previous occasions they have called upon the Government of Belize (GOB) to consider making changes in fishing legislation and protect the shark population in the country, but so far nothing has been done.

Pilot episode of La Isla Bonita Telenovela along with other Belizean films to debut at Barbados' Carifesta
Three Belizean films have been selected to be featured at Carifesta, the annual Festival of Arts in Barbados. The festival takes place from August 17th to the 27th and will feature Caribbean culture, music, literary arts, visual arts, theatre, dance and film. La Isla Bonita Telenovela and 'I Had To do It, will make its debut at the festival on Saturday, August 19th and will have a second screening on Wednesday, August 23rd , while, 'Manna,' will be screen on Monday, August 21st ,Wednesday, August 23rd , and Saturday, August 26th at the Olympus VIP Theatres.

Which internet speed works for you?
Ok So Diginet is now officially advertised. Some useful info for people who aren't too savvy in bandwidth. I am an active online gamer and stream regularly. In the different packages they claim you cant game online or stream HD on package 1 & 2. Is this a marketing scheme or someone needs to adjust this and say Not recommend? And Why? because as I can recall gaming and streaming recommend that you have 2Mbps or higher. As long as I can remember even though DSL was crappy at times gaming and streaming was good on 2Mb & 4 Mb connections...just incase some people are trying to save a lil money and choose the right plan

The Republic of China (Taiwan) bestows USD$221,850.00 to Belize for the Prevention and Control of Chronic Renal Failure
The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is pleased to announce that on Monday, August 14th, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Corozal Community Hospital, H.E. Ambassador Charles Liu, on behalf of the Republic of China (Taiwan), will bestow the first disbursement of US$ 221,850 to Hon. Pablo Marin, Minister of Health, for the Capacity Building Project for the Prevention and Control of Chronic Renal Failure in Belize (hereinafter referred to as the "Renal Failure Prevention Project"). The "Renal Failure Prevention Project" was implemented on February 10, 2016. Through this project, 51 Medical Officers, 7 Dialysis Nurses and 79 Community Health Workers were trained by 4 Seed instructors last year. The 9 Dialysis Nurses as well have been certified as "Registered Dialysis Nurse" by the Nurse and Midwives Council of Belize.

Shooter misses victim who was talking to a cop
As a result of reports of shots fired on Friday night, police made checks in the Jane Usher Boulevard area where 2 male persons approached 44 year old Sidney Ellis. Ellis was talking to two females one of whom is a WPC or Woman Police Corporal. One of the men shot at him but missed and Ellis returned fire with his licensed firearm and the two gunmen escaped.

Man critical following traffic accident
Juan Chavin, 57, a resident of St Matthew's village is in a critical condition following a traffic accident on the George Price highway. Chavin was ridimg a bicycle between miles 37 and 38 on Thursday night when he was struck from behind, leaving him with severe facial injuries. Chavin is in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and police investigations continue.

Two police officers charged with 'extortion'
Two police officers assigned to the Punta Gorda police station have been arrested and charged with 'extortion' against a high school principal. The charge against WPC Jenny Tanner and PC Arden Jones follows an incident on Tuesday when a vehicle was intercepted at a checkpoint for not having valid insurance. The principal reported to police that the officers transported her to the police station, and that on the way, Tanner told her that the offense was a serious one, and that her driver's license would be revoked and her vehicle impounded. According to the principal, Tanner said she should settle with them. She continued that Jones, who was at the checkpoint, arrived at the station and asked her how much she was willing to pay them to overlook the matter and she said $300. She said Tanner allowed ber to go for the money and she came back and gave them $400, after which she was released.

Fatal hit and run on George Price highway
A man was knocked down and killed on the George Price Highway early Saturday morning. The incident happened at around 1:00 a.m., near Cotton Tree village and claimed the life of Oscar Cermenio. Police say Cermenio was still alive when they found him with broken legs, and chest and head injuries. He died at about 5:15 a.m. Police investigations continue.
