Doctor Love: Not the marrying kind
Dear Doctor Love, I am a man in my thirties and I have always known I am not the marrying kind. I am upfront about this with every woman I date and I make sure they understand that I will be monogamous while in a relationship with them but I do not believe in “until death do us part.” I never cohabitate but I have had a few very emotional and passionate relationships. They usually end because I have met someone I want to get to know better. I am honest about it the minute I realize it is turning into desire because I do not want to cheat or treat any woman unfairly. I just know myself and marriage and kids is a long-term commitment I am not inclined to make.

The Belize Tourism Industry San Pedro Chapter issues an update on the FOR THE LOVE OF SAN PEDRO campaign for a safer San Pedro
We would like to thank everyone for attending our FOR THE LOVE OF SAN PEDRO public meeting last Thursday night. The goal of the meeting was to bring the community together for the greater good of San Pedro while sharing ideas and solutions through selected island residents who represent the wide demographics of our island community and invited government officials. Although every single person deserves to be heard, for the sake of civility and time we decided against an open mic forum. Instead, we provided index cards where comments and concerns could be left in designated boxes. We are now compiling these comments into categories, determining the level of priority and working on how to address them best.

The Naucoridae (Heteroptera: Nepomorpha) of Belize
Bob Sites, Bill Shepard and I have a new article out about the creeping water bugs of Belize (including a key). The checklist for Belize has been updated, and includes Kevin Scheers’ records for the diving and burrowing water beetles (including a key for the burrowers). Few regional faunistic treatments of aquatic Heteroptera exist for Mesoamerica. Records given here are the result of three extensive, coincident projects, each generating many specimens of Naucoridae. Thus, presented here is an annotated list of Naucoridae occurring in Belize, with an illustrated taxonomic key and notes on habitat. Three species are new country records, and ten species in four genera are now known from Belize.

In response to an earlier when Mehalia, Victoria and myself were discussing the fungus Conifia on Pitaya dragon fruits. These are some of mine showing both infections and new growth. Mind you they are completely left alone at this point. I did spray all my trees with our Grow Big plant RX formula to see if it helps combat what I know thanks to Mehalia realize is a fungus!

Poached macaw update
Inserted into foster nest: We are elated to share that thanks to excellent work and close cooperation between FCD, FD and BWRC these two chicks got very "lucky" in the their misfortune: first they had the "luck" to be confiscated right in time (congratulations again to the amazing FCD rangers!!!). As is recommended for all poached animals, they were given specialised veterinary care and a health check by BWRC as a first step. Thankfully the chicks responded well to rehydration and introduction of proper diet, the health check revealed no major concerns and within 24 h the green light to return to the Chiquibul was given by our vets, the Forest Department and last but not least FCD's research team.
Madison Pearl receives award from the 2018 WWF International President’s Youth Award Special Mention
“I feel proud that Belize has taken such an important step forward and that we helped make it happen but there is so much more we all can – and need to – do. Destroying our natural resources with selfish and short-sighted interests is not OK. I’d like to encourage children around the world to stand up for our planet. Our parents and grandparents have enjoyed a beautiful home and we and our children deserve the same. Together we must send a message to our leaders that they are responsible for the planet we will live on in the future and they must make it one they would be proud to leave behind," Madison Pearl. Madi with her award finally in hand from the 2018 WWF International President’s Youth Award Special Mention. The award acknowledges and encourages outstanding achievements of young people under the age of 30 who are making significant contributions to nature conservation. Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort: Jungle, Beach, Heaven in Hopkins Village
This humble sign on the edge of charming Hopkins Village gives very little indication of what is beyond. The AMAZING Hamanasi Resort. The lush surroundings, acres and acres of manicured jungle, the friendly, knowledgeable and proud staff (about 150 employees for under 30 rooms), my gorgeous treehouse, the commitment to the environment (truly walking the walk), the impossibly sophisticated yet casual restaurant and fine food, just the attention to detail… Impeccable. Elegant, deliberate and thoughtful but relaxed. But even more than that… The “Hamanasi experience” is just that. A full experience. Last week I left with 2 of the best scones I’ve ever tasted packed carefully for me by a waitress named Abby (she heard me gushing) and four huge bunches of bulbs (rhizomes actually) and cuttings- pink ginger, red ginger and two types of heliconia – carefully packed and labelled by Mr Che. Ready for my flight home on Tropic Air.
