Reef rehabilitation project starts on Ambergris Caye
A reef restoration project has begun on the eastern coast of Ambergris Caye, in an attempt to replenish areas along the Barrier Reef where corals have died. The project is run under the San Pedro Tour Operators Association (SPTOA) and involves the Kids in Action Club, which certifies young divers every year. The program exposes children and adults alike to the marine environment and engages them in sustainable projects like this one. Currently, two nurseries consisting of two frames have been built and placed under the sea in front of the island, with over 100 coral plants/fragments on it. When they are mature, these corals will be moved to designated areas along the reef system.

NOPE . . . NOT TODAY !
By: Mike Rudon Jr. What a hell of a year it has been. So much so that this is the third column I’m writing this week. The first was terrible, a real funeral dirge. I read it and cried myself to sleep, it was that sad and that bad. The second was better – or at least a little more positive. I spent a lot of time in that one alternately beating up on myself and feeling sorry for myself, and yet managed to thank my faithful seven readers from the bottom of my heart and still send out wishes for love and peace this Christmas. Imagine that. What can I say? I’m a wordsmith. This is what I do.

19 Best Places to Go in 2019
Belize made another must see list: Conde Nast Traveler's 19 Best Places to Go in 2019. They focus more on the luxury, seeming to forget about the adventure and ecotourism Belize is known for, and forget that Belize's reef is now the largest living barrier reef, but it's a good mention. "Just down the Caribbean coast from the Yucatan with a fraction of the tourism, this Central American country on the world’s second largest living coral reef has been buzzing with new openings that are transforming this one-time backpacker haven into a luxury destination... The major advantage, of course, is that Belize is only a five-hour flight from New York, with a blend of Mayan, Creole, Mestizo, and European cultures that will guarantee we’ll soon see English-speaking Belize turning up on everyone’s Instagram feeds."
