Posted in San Pedro Sun, rumor about possible sale Belikan Brewery might have been sold, who has scoop, or hearsay about this.
Maybe new owner will start bringing in Corona Beer, my first chouce, and no lime.
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 02:45 PM
Sorry for mis spell of Belikin, 2 places.
Posted By: Sir Isaac Newton Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 03:40 PM
So after working in Jalisco (true story) for a short time, I noticed none of my local Mexican friends drink Corona. Finally asking why, I was informed that most of the Corona goes abroad to the gringos (US) and that many a time, the brewery workers [#%!] into the tanks.

Drinkers beware, even if just 1% true.

Thats why Corona tastes like carbonated pee! I'll take a Modelo or Dos XX anyday thank you!
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 04:54 PM
What about the Brewery Sale, any word.
All good Dos xx, Tacati, as most beer south of the border.
Posted By: Sun&sand Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 05:08 PM
eeEWWWW...Guess I'll never drink another corona. But, prefer Dos XX or Modelo's anyhow....I know someone who pee'd in the stream that feeds into the Coors brewery...can't drink that, either.
Posted By: krehfish Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 05:12 PM
probably the only can that ever came out of the coors brewery with any taste

I knew mobunny had stock in the Modelo group.
Posted By: Sir Isaac Newton Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 05:40 PM
Negro Modelo.
Posted By: cracked up Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 06:42 PM
Anheuser Busch Co.s owns 50% of "Grupo Modelo".
Grupo Modelo brews "Corona" and of course "Modelo Negro".

It is very unlikely that contaminates could be entered into the brewing process, but if someone is pissing in it, they would also be hitting the Negro line. They all start together in the brewing process.

Heard the same about Belikin, we drink it anyway though, don't we!
Posted By: Sir Isaac Newton Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 06:56 PM
It was a joke.

Belikin, is not, and tastes horrible as well as being highly over priced. Belikin Stout I think is great, just an opinion.

I think just about every commercial food item out there has been 'defiled' somehow. Of course its all hearsay. thankfully alcohol kills most gross stuff. I would live life just fine if I never drank another Belikin.
I've heard of people peeing in the pickle jug at McDonalds. (It used to be the new guy initiation at the McD's on Yonge in Toronto)Again, all hearsay about 20 years ago, but makes you think.
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 07:52 PM
Still no word about Belikin Brewery being sold,
wrong persons to ask, I guess.
Still like Corona Beer, even if it was pissed on, rumor started by Bud, Coors, Ect., Ect., but did not work.
Anyone on AC know about possible sale.
Posted By: SimonB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 08:05 PM
Having eaten many a meal at McDonalds on Yonge St. I have no problem believing that story.
Posted By: SimonB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 08:07 PM
CS, 227-2602 or 2603 why not call and ask?
Posted By: JZB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 08:12 PM
I'm sure the Bowen And Bowen employees know about as much as we do. I've heard rumors of Barry wanting to sell for a couple years, and rumors that it actually did. If rumors are true, they are being very hush hush on the subject and we probably won't hear the facts until press release time.
Posted By: reaper Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 08:23 PM
Why the big interest CS? Are you going to sell your swamp land up north to build the new brewery on? cool
Posted By: beachboy Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 08:43 PM
Lots of rumours nothing confirmed as yet.
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/12/06 09:01 PM
Reaper, what swamp land.
Might build a new Corona Steve brewery on my land, with the new Corona Freeway, and Corona Airport, if Berry has not bought that yet. Also a Corona Bridge to Mexico. The next Corona Gardens Resort.
Looking for deeeeep Pockets to help Finance this massive project.

Any connection with the runway extension?
Posted By: SimonB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 12:25 AM
I worked at King and Yonge for quite a few years. Spent many a Friday night cruising Yonge in my '70 Chevelle SS396. I still have many lost memories from partying at places like the Gasworks.

There's a decent site about Yonge St. at http://www.boldts.net/Toronto.shtml#map
Posted By: JZB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 02:25 PM
OMG, I used to love cruising up and down the strip! I forgot all about that. Its a shame they don't do that anymore. What a blast. I've also downed a couple pints at the gassworks listening to some raunchy (sp?) band. AAAhhhhh memories....
Sorry to get off topic..

Around 2 months ago -a financial person told me Modelo had bought the company -the reason so that they could get into the caricom market-I was told this would be announced in 3 months time.
why this could be correct.
1. Barry is not as fit as he was before his car accident in 2000.
2. there are a bunch of Mexicans around the brewery and have been for the last two months.
3. Belikin have been told that their monopoly would not last forever.
4.The brewery is state of the art and can double its present output for no further investment.
Posted By: JZB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 06:18 PM
That would be awesome! I've also heard through the grapevine, ages ago, Barry needed the money to expand his shrimp business.
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 06:24 PM
Pedro1, thanks for info, sounds real to me.
What is next for Barry, now that he has all the rest of the money.
Rumor, looking at old airport up North, this came from friend who just came back from AC 2 weeks ago.
If true about sale, Modelo could bring in Corona some day.
Posted By: Pedro1 Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 06:31 PM
Barry needs money!!
not a chance-he has more than most
Posted By: JZB Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/13/06 07:13 PM
Of course he does. But why would he risk millions of his own personal $$? You don't think he'll be taking the money from the sale to go retire on a beach somewhere? wink I'm sure he's got more than enough to do that already. He'll be reinvensting it in other money making ventures. Wouldn't you?

Maybe Diane Campbell knows, as she is well established in town.
Will she talk about it, well maybe, if we prod her a little.
Posted By: Corona Steve Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 06/29/06 02:07 PM
Wanted to bring this back up to top, checking for any new info, if possible
Again, disreguard the Mis spelled Belikin on topic name.

Rumor on the island has it that Beliken brewery was sold to an African Corporation, Barry kept the water and the juices. Just a short note...Beliken beer was voted last year by Caribbean Magazine as the best beer made in the Caribbean!!! Personally, I'll drink regular Beliken and Premium but not the stout!
Posted By: Diane Campbell Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 07/02/06 08:22 PM
Dixie said it ain't so.
Posted By: deacon+ Re: Belican Brewery Sale - 07/02/06 09:36 PM
Personally if I have to drink beer make it Rolling Rock.
