Anybody know Boston, MA? - 09/27/06 05:33 PM

I have a business trip to Boston coming up and have never been there. I only have one full day and night free. Can anybody tell me what/where to go, see and do? Good restaurants?

oooooooooooo love Boston! Bring your walking shoes! Lots to do! Make sure to go to Faneuil Hall - Market Place to do some walking shopping, site seeing. Go to Cheers - of course. wink There's a LOT to do/see in that area. Make sure you have some Boston Creme Pie and Clam Chowder. smile

What hotel?

Have fun!

I think I have to rent a car because my business is in Framingham, where ever that is. Can't be too far - MA is not a big state.

Framingham is a ways out of downtown. Should have clam chowder, tho.

Love that Clam Chowder and the aqauarium sounds right up my alley.

Beantown traffic can't be any worse than NYC, right?

Re: Anybody know Boston, MA? - 09/27/06 08:34 PM

no it's worse. LM, IMHO - think smaller tighter streets. Half of them are no wider than they were in Paul Revere's day...quaint but tiny. Me thinks the drivers are nastier too ( ducking for cover).

Approx 25 miles to Framingham which often seems like 250!

Once I was headed back to Logan to catch a flight home and traffic stopped dead in the tunnel at peak rush hour....not uncommon, but this time it was for a fistfight between 2 cabbies!

I'll drive in Manhattan ANY day before BOS!

Yikes, worse than NYC! I about had a mild heart attack driving in NYC, especially, when another car "jumped" the small concrete barrier because it missed a turn off on the way to JFK. And I was also caught on the Tappen Zee bridge because of a jumper. That was lots of fun, requiring a 6 hour detour through the Hudson River Valley.

The proper pronunciation is "CHOWDA" while in "bastin", And you can "PAK the CAA" because you won't need it there. smile

A commuter train runs from Boston to Framingham station. 36 minutes (from Copley). Check www.mbta.com for schedules.

I liked the trolley tour buses because you can get on and off wherever you like. Boston Trolley Web Site

There are a bunch you can catch right around the Aquarium.

2 things I have to do when in Boston:
1) Find a cheap lobster dinner deal in the Fenuell Hall area and then
2) Walk across the road to Mike's Pastry in the North End and get a Cannoli.

North End for fab Italian food
Harvard Square (all Cambridge really) for the hippest shops & people watching
Central Square for Great Indian Food, funky MIT crowd
Swan Boats on the common
Great live music everywhere
Definitely don't drive - very good public transportation and very easy to get lost if you don't know your way around
I miss living there! Started my travel career in Boston...
