Thanks so much for posting these sites Amanda.

I have sent them to 2 friends in Toronto who run a company called Direct Abundance that organizes volunteer groups and does fundraising from afar to help those in need.

They have started fundraising for HC school in Canada and will be bringing down donations in June when they come for Lobsterfest and Blog Fiesta.

They plan to add RC to the list and I told them we can definitly keep their organization busy helping out here in Belize.

Please feel free to email me any more places like this if you come across them.

Thanks so much Taco Girl. There are some facilities in the city and a new one will be opening up in the south soon.

Belize does not avidly support foreign adoptions - they do happen but they are few and far between and parents are expected to move down to Belize and live for a period of time with the child in Belize so that social services can observe the quality of care and ensure that the family members bond. Parents are requested to bring the children to Belize on a regular basis (optional) and teach the children about their roots and to foster a love of our country.

We all know that the situation has to be very dire for family members not to take in orphans. Belizeans are very family oriented and children are certainly cherished within 99% of our society. For those few unfortunate children who don't have anybody to care for them these homes are a place that provides safety, nourishment, love, education, medical care and a sense of belonging.

If you can consider fostering (here in Belize) please contact these homes. If not there are pages on the website that detail the items that are always in demand - socks, undershirts, shoes, sheets etc. some helpful items such as a weedwhacker or a printer and ink cartridges and of course details on what it costs to sponsor a child in the home for a year.

I know many people remember these kids at Christmas time, but they are in need all year round.
