"The Tourist Who's Too Dangerous for Belize"
US deportee writes book defaming Belize

[Linked Image] An ugly American who was deported from Belize as persona non-grata has written an unflattering book about Belize and the new novel that has been published and advertised on the popular website Amazon.com is raising eyebrows and spreading filth about Belize.

It is a so-called true to life experience of 51-year-old Dean Fortune DeMarks. "The Tourist Who's Too Dangerous for Belize" is the title and it claims to be an explosion of truth. In fact, the description has very little if any truth other than the name of the author. DeMarks claims to be the victim of an extortion conspiracy led by Belize's Police Department.

Dean DeMarks had spent no more than 12 days in Belize before he was picked up for having illegal explosives at his home, Demarks makes the claim that he lived for three years in Belize, arriving as an investor looking for peace and tranquility on the Placencia peninsula. In the book the writer claims that during his three-year stay at Placencia he became the target of drug smugglers, scam artists and crooked politicians and referred to the people of Seine Bight as "uncivilized Garifuna natives".

The racist remarks have prompted some people to write to Amazon requesting an immediate removal of the comment and the book. If his name sounds familiar, it is because DeMarks was deported from Belize on March seventh, 2008. Prior to his deportation order, DeMarks was staying in Seine Bight but nearby Placencia residents reported him to the police after he threatened to blow up the village. When officers searched his home, they found an unlicensed silver and black nine millimeter pistol with ammunition, two blocks of M112 C-4 explosives, and a detonator. The Belize Defense Force flew DeMarks from Independence to the Philip Goldson International Airport and onto a flight to Houston, where he was handed over to U.S. Marshals.

This OCD challenged imbecile must Twitter 20-30 times a day. Usually quoting articles from the archives of this site in a feeble attempt to make his point. Maybe Marty will ban his IP?
Let's hope. What garbage
I'm not defending DeMarks, but unfortunately the Ambergris Today article Short repeats here is misleading, at least in one important way.

DeMarks may have been back in Belize only 12 days the time in early 2008 when he was detained and shortly afterwards deported, but he had been in Placencia off and on for three years. He was developing a condo project there and building a house.

There are other articles, internet postings, reviews on Amazon.com and TV reports on DeMarks that are more accurate.

The length of stay is not the issue, the gun and the C4 is. Unless he was going to use the C4 to make place for his condos.
