High and dry on the islands.
And...a good illustration of the confusing contrasts in weather forecasts for Belize and the reality on the islands.
hasn't rained enough to settle the dust out here.

Cayo bridges under troubled waters

The weatherman has issued a flood warning for the Macal, Belize, Deep and Sarstoon Rivers and Golden Stream in the Toledo District. A News Five crew travelling west detected that both the Iguana Creek Bridge and the low-lying bridge at San Ignacio were inundated. This was due to weekend rains caused by several tropical waves that passed over the country. But NEMO in the Cayo District has already been activated and according to the District Coordinator, Al Westby, they have been keeping an eye on this condition since this morning when the waters started rising.

Al Westby, District Coordinator, N.E.M.O. Cayo
“We have noticed that the Iguana Creek Bridge water has been rising there. Our presence was there and we set a marker and noticed that it was rising. At this moment, I came from the low-lying bridge right here in San Ignacio and Santa Elena. It’s steady; it’s not going down, but it’s not rising at this moment. However, I just received a text about a couple minutes ago from sources in Calla Creek who are telling me now that the Mopan River at Calla Creek is going up, so I need to go and take a look.”

Duane Moody
“How is it affecting the people alongside the river?”

Al Westby
“The people alongside the river are not affected quite much at this moment. They are not displaced because the water has not come up that high as yet. But hopefully it could run off before it gets high.”

A flood alert is in effect for Sibun River at Gracie Rock and Monkey River.
