Wow! Let traffic cops deal with traffic! And you think that crook has a good idea? Mmmmm....
Ever notice how cozy he is with the money folks? Wonder why more than half his declarations are for obituaries? How sweet, and redirecting attention away from real issues. Old tactic seems to work on AC. You folks need to drain your swamp too!

The obituaries are respect for the families and people who founded this town. To dismiss these sincere condolences is both unkind and off-target. I join in the sadness of watching San Pedro's "Greatest Generation" pass away. They were genuine originals and we are all the poorer for their departure.

I agree Diane, we have to realize that it is election year, so we'll be seeing a lot of new posters suddenly intent on ridiculing the Mayor. Dirty tactics have started.

Nothing dirty about it. Just cheap pandering by a politician. Of course if you're a supporter or beneficiary you'll feel differently. Mayor Barry was loved too both before and after jail time....go figure!

Very interesting, those quick to criticize but never offer a solution or volunteer to help. Every problem has a solution. The anonimity provided here allows cowards to throw mud without getting their hands dirty.

Customs officer Mr. Robinson who bust the Castro boys with contraband demoted from senior position in north post to airport. Now only in charge of airport instead of the entire north.
Just imagine you doing it job the right way and get demoted due to government corruption !!!!

Extortion charges dropped against San Pedro Constables

Special Constable Orlando Mendez and Police Constable Nelson Ramos, formally attached to the San Pedro Police Formation were freed on extortion charges on Wednesday, July 17th. On June 15, 2017, American tourist Timothy Braun accused Mendez and Ramos of shaking him down for US $300 to drop a marijuana charge.

Braun said he had been falsely accused of smoking marijuana, and handcuffed and robbed. Former co-accused, Constable Malcolm Ramirez, who today remains an active member of the San Pedro Police Department agreed to testify for the prosecution in exchange for immunity. According to Ramirez, while on patrol, they spotted a group of Americans who smelled like marijuana. A search located the "joint" of weed on Braun, but as he was being taken in custody, the others asked what they could do to help their friend. Ramirez said it was they who offered the money to be shared between them; he got US$50, and Mendez and Ramirez took US$125 each.

Justice Colin Williams, presiding, ruled that a conviction would be unsafe, as the prosecution only had Ramirez's testimony, not even Braun. While Ramirez tried to lessen his role in the shakedown, he was nonetheless an accomplice, despite claiming he walked away afterward.
