Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

The pressure gradient associated with a dominant surface high pressure ridge over the central and western Atlantic is supporting fresh to strong winds over the central Caribbean this morning. Overnight scatterometer data shows small areas of near gale-force winds near the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela, as a tropical wave is currently moving across the area. Wave heights are 8-12 ft within these enhanced trades over the south-central Caribbean. Elsewhere, moderate trades prevail across the remaining waters. Some scattered thunderstorms are noted near the Gulf of Honduras in association with another tropical wave.

A tropical wave near 73W will move across the central and western Caribbean through Sun. Behind this wave, strong trade winds over the south-central Caribbean will pulse to near gale-force speeds tonight near the coast of Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela. Winds and seas will briefly diminish Sun and Mon, then increase again by midweek as another tropical wave crosses the region. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh trades will persist across much of the area through this weekend. The tropical wave over the Gulf of Honduras will continue moving across Central America through tonight.

The weather is changing, the high level clouds are sort of rotating clockwise around our area, taking the main cloud away to the west, into the Pacific, where I think it might form into a storm. There is already a so called TS FAY in the north Atlantic, off the Carolina coast, going north, and one in the Pacific TS CRISTINA going west, out into open seas. But the cloud and multiple ITCZ activity that is now moving into the Pacific, away from us, could start another storm. The easterly Caribbean winds are back again from the ESE direction. Heavy cloud over the Stann Creak district is causing rain, possibly some heavy rain in places.

Looks like today will be mainly sunny, but with a fair amount of cloud, could be some rain showers, particularly south central areas.

The high level clashing is now moving away from Belize, but there could still be the odd rain shower around.
