Here's an incident only old-time Belizeans will remember. A dead whale
washed up on the reef
somewhere. A fisherman towed it into town and it was hoisted out of the
water by the little crane
at the customs wharf. The entire city came out to look, for none of us had
ever seen a real whale before.
The name on the boat is BEB, but I don't remember that one. Note the large
numbers painted on the side
identifying her as BH160. This was a WWII
requirement so that patrolling aircraft could recognize boats
at sea just by
looking up the numbers.
