The 1919 Disastrous Fire

In 1919 a disastrous fire destroyed all of the government buildings, including the Court House and the Post Office.

In the picture below, the view is on Regent Street looking north. Written on the left is "Mr. Grant's residence."

This picture is taken of the ruins from the Courthouse Landing. The old Presbyterian Church(Scots Kirk) is visible on the right.






This picture shows the area of the Post Office and the Police Station.


A 1970's postcard showing the Belize "Fire Brigade" and its trucks lined up at the Fire Station. These are 1919 Model American La France fire engines with solid rubber tires. I believe they were aquired after the big fire. They were still going strong in the 70s.
