Butterflies in the wild

I am trying to find out when would be the best time to come to Belize to see and photograph butterflies in the wild? I plan to spend a month in Belize sometime while travelling around Central America with my camera photographing butterflies, between the months of April to September, and was thinking to reach Belize by mid - may. (not fixed if it’s not a good time for butterflies)

Response from Jan at Green Hills Butterfly Farm:

Difficult question. Every year is different. But in general March-May are the worst months for butterflies. Then, as the rains start in May, things start to pick up, peaking in November or so. This is strictly statistics though. There are good years and bad years, Personally I would opt for August.
