ACER was founded to provide trained emergency responders on the island; we feel it is responsibility as professional Mariners everywhere to provide the public with effective emergency response. Captain Sterling Vorus, a dedicated member of the community, was concern by the lack of safety standards, so he took it upon himself to go above and beyond national requirements to provide the public with a needed service. He began by requiring all of his captains to be trained in shipboard firefighting techniques and theories; all captains underwent rigorous training. From there, Captain Stirling continued with his vision, requiring all captains to undergo advanced First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response. All captains have undergone meticulous training with qualified firefighters, coast guard officers, physicians, and BDARRT (Belize Disaster And Rescue Response Team). Through the hard work and dedication of Island Ferry and the ACER team, many lives have been saved on Ambergris Caye by ACER that is headquartered at Island Ferry but includes many dedicated volunteers who live her.
