Mr. Rene R. Villanueva Sr. as he receives the Distinguished Citizen Award in Los Angeles, California on Sept 18, 2008
The Ceremony was held at Los Angeles City Hall in the Tom Bradley Tower. The award is given to citizens who show humanitarian actions and gives back to their community. Nominated by Belize Cultural Foundation (BCF) an Organization in Los Angeles, Mr. Villanueva was honored by COFECA an organization that heads over 125 non profit organizations in Los Angeles. Mr. Villanueva was selected for this award because of all the work he did in keeping the Belizean Community Abroad, especially in the United States abreast of what's happening in Belize during Hurricane Seasons. The The Belizean communities in the United States, with families living in Belize, were really comforted by his reporting and accurate assessment of the flooding that recently occurred in Belize. Mr. Villanueva is the fourth person to receive this award and the first Belizean living outside of Los Angeles and the United States to be honored by Belize Cultural Foundation.
