Cuban Music at Hideaway Bar at The Pink Motel
Invited guests included Guatemalan Ambassador Manuel Tellez, Honorable Manuel Heredia, and Cuban Ambassador Manuel Rubio.

The Governments of Belize and Cuba have enjoyed a long standing relationship, and through their partnership, areas such as education, health and agriculture have flourished between the two. However, there is a recent move to widen that relationship to emphasize the exchange in culture. Cuban national Clemente Nieves has recently taken over the reigns of the Hideaway Bar at Pinky’s Motel and with such a wonderful location; it is his personal mission to strengthen the friendship both countries share.

Last Saturday, Nieves made his idea shine through during an official introduction ceremony held before dignitaries and special guests. At the event, Nieves introduced his concept with much flurry and fanfare and included not only special dance presentations but Cuban barbecue served much to the delight of those in attendance. The cultural dance numbers were presented by Cuban artists Michael, Julio, Anailen and Yisel who showcased their Cuban sass and moves encouraging everyone to join in.

Present for the occasion was Cuban Ambassador to Belize, His Excellency Manuel Rubio. Ambassador Rubio expressed his support to the concept explaining that it is always Cuba’s intention to open new doors of opportunities to expose what the country has to offer.

Also present was the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Honorable Manuel Heredia Jr. who stated that the idea is a good one and certainly one that will be explored further in order to enhance it. “I believe that much can be achieved through these cultural exchanges, we have so many things in common that we can both benefit from,” stated Heredia, committing the government support for the concept.

Besides introducing high class Cuban entertainment in San Pedro Town, Nieves plans to offer dance classes and music classes in the area of voice, singing and various instruments.

Also present for the occasion was Guatemalan Ambassador to Belize, His Excellency Manuel Tellez, who himself confessed having a passion for the Cuban music, and very much enjoyed singing along and dancing throughout the night.
