Charles Wright
Charles Wright authored the 1954 "Land in British Honduras", still in my opinion the most readable intensive survey of land, soils, farming communities, and resource use in Belize. He was also Belize's foremost lepidopterist at the time. I was fortunate to photograph him many years ago on film. Charles was a bit of a recluse, but this evening he had a few glasses of rum and was in a good mood. I asked him to work on his specimens and give me a surprised look to his right ... I shot an entire roll of film (36 exposure) with him making faces. Then I re-rolled the film into the camera, mounted one of his beautiful Blue Morpho specimens on a string against a black background and shot another 36 exposures on the same roll. This in camera double exposure is the result. I received a lovely card from Charles later saying that he has never sent out a Christmas card in his entire life, but after seeing this, he was asking permission to send out this one as his first. I was honored ...
