Caribbean Action Network caught this dolphin joinng the paddlers on the Belize River for a brief encounter during coverage of La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2013. Camera work done by Drew Miller from CAN network.

dolphin in the river??? was this out close to the coast?
Dolphins sometimes travel as much as 30 miles up river. I have seen them (and manatees) as far May Pen.
Actually I have seen dolphins as far up as Grace Bank area. They are mammals like whales so salinity might not be a big problem for them. But then again I recall in my young days diving in the Belize River and the water at the bottom (15-20 feet down) was salty.
