Dobsonfly (genus Corydalus) in the Caves Branch River
John Abbott takes amazing photographs of aquatic insects and so it was only natural that John held his tutorial next to a river, in this case, the Caves Branch River in Cayo District, Belize. I was determined to try to combine both John’s guidance and Piotr’s macro wide angle style in one shot, and true to the mischievous schoolboy inside, instead of sticking with the group to photograph dragonflies from the relative dryness of the river bank, I donned my swimsuit and housed my camera in the Canon WP-DC52 waterproof case, and swam out to the middle of the river to attempt a split-level photo of a species of Dobsonfly (genus Corydalus) while trying not to disturb the sediment, or get carried away downstream, or lose my camera, all-the-while wrangling the insect for the shot without her either biting me or flying away!
