Caribbean Hermit Crab (Coenobita clypeatus) in a West Indian top shell (Cittarium pica)
Trying to get a photo of this hermit crab out of his shell, this is one of the three species found in the Caribbean, the Caribbean Hermit Crab (Coenobita clypeatus) in a West Indian top shell (Cittarium pica), proved to be rather difficult as when they’re ready to escape, their legs suddenly bolt out of the shell and they take off scrambling! In the end, just capturing the brilliant colours on this one was enough.
