Scarlet Macaw family with chick almost ready to fledge from the nest
This is one of the 9 Macaw families currently with chicks almost ready to fledge from the nests (July 2016). Thanks to your support and the help of our MEGA partners like the National Audubon Society, the Belize Audubon Society and Caves Branch Jungle Lodge, they have a second chance. See that little face poking out of the cavity? Without our combined effort, that baby would likely be in a poacher's cage by now, or would have died along the way. Thank you!
They look so beautiful in the wild, especially when their flying high in the sky; their colorful wings, their lovely calling. It just irritates me and breaks my heart to know that they are snatched from our Forest and sold elsewhere to be kept in a cage! You guys are doing a major role conserving these lovely birds! Keep it up!
