Porcupine sunning itself in a tree
As soon as the sun came out after two days of near solid rain, this Porcupine (Coendou mexicanus) crawled up in the highest tree to warm up and dry out. — at Green Hills Butterfly Ranch.
Porcupine - K'ixpachoch:
Porcupine are one of the animals found in Belize and in Yucatec Maya it is known as k'ixpachoch. They are covered with a coat of sharp quills. These quills allow them to defend themselves from predators. There are 3 species found in Belize; Brazilian porcupines, Rothschild's porcupine and the Mexican hairy porcupines.
