San Pedro Cemetery, 1980's
From a friend: I was swimming in the surf with Army mates and we came across a floating coffin. The deceased was interred within and Sergeant ‘Smitty’ Smith and I arranged reburial of the remains. He and I petitioned the City (Belize) to relocate the Cemetery to where it remains today.. even though I believe a new resting place is now to the South of Town. It’s always been unsettling to me.. but it was after high surf activity after a storm.
Jayson Forman: I do remember the high surf times. In my head I was thinking of a small hurricane. But I remember that after the storm, there were many reports of coffins drifting on to the sea and some resettling at Paradise Resort next door.
