Hon. Sandy Hunter with Junior Bowman and his daughter Therese Rath, 1966-67
My colleague Junior Bowman at SJC, 1950-54 (a very fast sprinter and Orator) and my colleague in Belize's First Government Cabinet Hon. Alexander Sandy Hunter, Lita (Luz) Hunter's dad!
MY COLLEAGUE, MINISTER SANDY HUNTER, HAD A SPLENDID CAREER. Although unknown to this new generation, I take great pleasure in keeping the Memory of these great BELIZEAN HEROES ALIVE.
AFTER HIS FORMAL EDUCATION AT SJC, YOUNG SANDY JOINED THE CANADIAN ROYAL AIR FORCE. After the War he returned to Belize and joined his Dad as one of the Directors of JAMES BRODIES.
In 1958, when all attempts were being made, by the Colonial Office to DESTROY George Price, Mr Sandy Hunter resigned from Brodies and joined us in the Struggle.
In 1961, Hon. Sandy won the Fort George Constituency and joined us in the FIRST BELIZEAN CABINET of Ministers. He was assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Fisheries.
On his retirement from active electoral Politics, he was appointed as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to succeed Sir Harrison Courtney.
He was appointed a KNIGHT, by Queen Elizabeth in 1970. So the title SIR.
Hon, Alexander Sandy Hunter was very INSTRUMENTAL in the struggle for Belize's Independence.
I SALUTE MY GREAT COMRADE, AND ARCHITECT OF BELIZE'S INDEPENDENCE.

I WONDER HOW MANY BELIZEANS, IN FACT HOW MANY YOUNG POLITICIANS KNOW, WHO WAS THE PATRIOT, HONORABLE SIR ALEXANDER Sandy HUNTER ?
How many know, that when George Price was being pressured in 1958, by the Colonial Office, aided and abetted by some of the ELITEs of Belize, SANDY HUNTER, a well positioned Belizean, left his lucrative job at James Brodies, and joined the People's United Party in the struggle to FREE BELIZE FROM THE COLONIAL YOKE.
The decision by Mr. Alexander Hunter to join the ranks of the PUP, opened the doors to many others who joined the struggle, including my good old SJC friend Junior Bowman. ( who is in this picture with Sandy.
TODAY IN BELIZE, THAT SELFISHNESS PERSISTS TO DENY YOUNG GENERATIONS THE STORY BEHIND THE NAMES OF THOSE BRAVE PATRIOTS, I CALL THEM, " FREEDOM FIGHTERS " WHO ANSWERED THE CALL OF PATRIOTISM.
I salute my friend and colleague in Cabinet. Hon Alexander Hunter.
It was brave Belizeans like Sandy Hunter, who actually prepared the THE TABLE FOR BELIZE'S INDEPENDENCE. Those that followed, sat at the FREEDOM MEAL.
AN I CAN CATEGORICALLY STATE THAT ALEXANDER HUNTER ENTERED POLITICS FINANCIALLY WELL, - - - BUT LEFT POLITICS EMPTY HANDED. - I spoke to him at his home couple months before he passed away, and after hearing his story, I ACTUALLY SHED TEARS. And so were my other colleagues in the First ALL BELIZEAN CABINET. ( 1964, - 74. )
