San Pedro "Airport," 1970.' Crashed DC-3 next to runway

When a crashed DC-3 was at town side of sandy airstrip , and here our RAF Puma Helicopters landed to drop / pick up us British Soldiers Monday’s and Friday’s.

Caribe Forman: The aircraft wreckage sat upside down with the wheels pointed to the sky... Part of the DC-3 was submerged by tall grass set in the middle of what was to be our backyard. It was all aluminum colored and incredibly heavy. Took us weeks to get enough men to pry out of the earth and discard. The wreckage was trucked away to the town dump and used as landfill. The image to the right was on the rear side of the body and the top of one visible wing.

John William Boston: It was an olde Royal Air Force DC-3 DOuglas Dakota long lost Aircraft wrecked at end of airport (then just a strip). It’s a crime that I sat upon her wings awaiting the arrival of Royal Air Force Puma Helicopters (1977) carrying troops (Students for Survival training plus some harriers Pilots) without taking a photograph.. with the serial number.. of this old girl that did her job so well. In ‘77 the aircraft was up with air in tires.

Tamara Sniffin: Totally remember the wreckage when flying in!
