The red hind is a common small grouper on our barrier reef
The spectacular coloring and pattern allows it to hide among the red splotched sponges or corals and ambush its prey. Red hind are protogynous hermaphrodites - animals that are born female and at some point in their lifespan change sex to male. The red hind spawning occurs from March to July, and females release an average of 90 thousand to 3 million pelagic eggs.
