Belize National Historical Society
A group for Belizeans who would like to post, discuss and preserve our unique history. We hope our group with the help of our members will eventually develop into an official NGO known as the Belize National Historical Society. For the time being, we want to create an online bank through crowd sourcing of anything of historical content about Belize including historic photos, buildings, bios of patriotic Belizeans to name a few.

Public Housing (long barracks) on George St. in Belize City from back in the 1970's

It was on George Street way down between Mex and Kut Avenue. It is now renovated and does not looks like this today. There was one at Old Faber's Rd/ Queen Charlotte St. too, in the Yarborough Area. These were George Dakers housing projects. If I can recalled, and there was a water pipe as we come down the step.

I saw the coconut tree, and I remember it was alway been bushy, no one want to come together and cut and clean the area, up to this day. There is a water pipe at the last house in the 70's, late 80's. There is now a cement building complex there, but some of that grass is still growing there, it is the City Council that has to come and cut and clean the lawn. These we’re the type of house that were built before they commenced to build the long Baracks type.

They were actually Apartments joined together, this was the back of the houses. In this picture, those push opened window, were the Kitchen are where a basin stood.

The stairs were two sections, in between were each window. There was residents occupacy, of the two storey building. There was only one big room, a sewerage inside on the right of the room, and a bath was near the back door, where the kitchen situated.

A little area to eat, that connects a little living room that is facing to the front door to a front veranda.
