Stann Creek House of Culture
The Stann Creek is located currently at the Gulisi Garifuna Museum in Dangriga. Houses of Culture (HOCs) are located around the country and feature activities meant to inspire and uplift through culture. HOCs are envisioned as dynamic, creative community centres where neighbours, residents and students can come together to learn, teach and pursue their favourite cultural activity. Additionally, some work with children, youth, adults and senior citizens as well as with the physically impaired, in fields of music, literature, dance, drama and art and at times conduct activities at health centres, disability centres and homes for children and senior citizens with schools as the focal point.

Blake House in San Pedro, mid 1940's

Constructed in 1904.

Yvonne Paulette Hunter Romero: My aunt wrote a book of her childhood in Belize and she mentioned that they used to go out every year in May for the whole month and stayed at Blake House while Mr and Mrs Blake went to Belize city for their Holiday. Not sure for how many years but she specifically mentioned 1946 was a special year since it was the last trip all together since my other aunt would be joining the convent that year. The kids were growing up and leaving the nest so the yearly family trips would not be the same. That is what happened with us also.

In 1946 my dad was 19 and she mentioned he was already working at Brodie’s and could only come out for two weeks instead of a whole month. My dad and my aunt (the one joining the convent) were twins and the second to oldest of the seven children. The oldest had already left Belize to join the army.

Neima Castillo: I lived next door in what was Danny Vasquez and tia Jane's residence Afterwards was the priest's residence Remembering Doņa Elena's beautiful garden.

Mito Paz: Just curious. Does anyone know if any family members of the Blake Dynasty are buried at the San Pedro cemetery? I have seen tombstones of Alamillas but none of the Blakes.

Angel Nunez: The Blake’s lived in Corozal. The only one that lived in DanPedro was Papa Blake and his wife Elena. The moved in their old age to Veracruz, Mexico. To be honest quite likely No.
