This building existed during the time when my grandfather, Andres Enriquez served as school Principal there, starting in 1907 when there were no roads to the village. To reach there he had to walk the 25 mile trail through thick forests, mosquito-infested swamps, and hills. He was the longest serving Principal to serve at the school after he personally sacrificed through challenging times to stabilize the school and community. Few will remember the impact of the Enriquez family through education during the early establishment of that village, where my grandfather and his children, including my father, uncle and aunts, served as teachers. The older Mayas of San Antonio often spoke highly of the family.
