Our reefs are spiritual places, to be protected and respected. When we dredge, cut mangrove, dump trash, use gill nets or pollute our rivers, we are wounding, degrading and destroying that which makes Belize special. Ultimately, we are hurting ourselves. Somehow we need to instill a new environmental ethic in Belize, our own, separate from the wasteful destructive path we have followed, cut by the developed countries to the North. Let’s find our own way, the path less followed...
