Canal Street in Stann Creek, 1915
The roofs were made of thatch, and the walls of pimienta palm.
Derrick Velasquez: Canal Street before the area was named Backatown. The first house on the left is my grandmother’s house. Canal Street ran parallel to the canal which is hidden by the vegetation in the right of the picture. From north to south the same street merged into Zericote Road years later.

Our older male use to wear jumbulums. I remember Mr. Luther Sr. Mr Flabs, Mr. Baba Cas. Sr an my Dad .Mr. Solomon Cayetano as well.
