Rexall Drugstore operated by pharmacist Ray Heusner in Belize City, 1939r
Corner of Albert and King Street. Palace Theatre on the right. There was a night club, Cambridge Club," on the upper flat, entrance doorway behind the little girl. General Workers Dev Union moved their offices up there for a period of time in the 1970's under Tom Martinez. There was also a billiards play club on the upper level.
They used to have displays in a bottle of a cross-embryo between two different animals! Later operated by pharmacist Dr. Bennett. He was a quiet and kind man, Dr Bennett. He was not a real doctor, just a pharmacist but somehow we all called him Dr Bennett. He was one of the founders of the Belize Volunteer Blood Bank. Their office was at the Belize Hospital. Mr. Bennett was a true Gentleman. RIP.
Before Bennett, It was Heusner Drug Store from way back before the 50's. There was also one on the corner of New Road and Queen Street, in those days. The latest owner of this one at Bridge Foot (once called Octogan) was/is Victor Usher Sr and now Jr. Joe De la Fuente worked for Mr Lopez the pharmacist in the 60s. That’s an icon building, one of two drugstores growing up in the 70’s. The other was Rexall at the corner of Albert & King St run by Mr. Bennett.
Lindsey Berry was the pharmacist's trusted assistant for many years. His daughter is Ms. Joy Grant, she is the head of The Belize Central Bank.
Across the street was Bata Shoes Store. There was also a club beside Bata Shoe store.
Waldman shoe store was next to Palace Theater followed by Espat store. In front of Sichaffy store was Wischenkas sold expensive wrist watches made by Bulova, Timex etc.
Jose Gomez: My grandma lived across on King Street and my Dad (Tito) used to sell in his cart in front of Palace Theater, ...best plantain chips those days. Our stomping ground. Geradl my cousin use to sell craboo at the corner there with his Mom all his life. Jerrison Lopez jerry, now sells at that same location today
