Fantastic 1914 panorama of Belize City
CLICK IMAGE to see a larger version! This panoramic photograph shows Belize City as it appeared around 1914. This panoramic view is comprised of eight photographs spliced together to provide a broader image than would be practical with a single photograph. Belize was the main city and major port of the crown colony of British Honduras.
You can seems to be the dredge that filled up the Fort George area sitting in front of what is now Memorial Park. No Paslow building yet.
We can see the St. Catherine’s Church and we can see a clearer view of many of the original houses along Regent’s Street. Even the Eyre St. shoreline. I believe this photo was taken from a tower that was located in the vicinity of the Old City Council Office. Across the river from the Court house was a very tall smoke stack or industrial chimney that was part of the power plant. Many picures including this panoramic photo of the city were taken from atop that structure. See the towers on the right side of the image just below, they look like chimneys.
