, 1999, bound with
only one thing in mind-to be in the Guiness Book of World's Records as
the first people to travel around the world in an open boat. The idea,
born in 1990, required careful planning.
Their 18 foot boat, an Uttern 5412, is equipped with
all sleeping and bathroom facilities and is powered by a 50hp,
four-stroke Mercury engine. Roy explained the reason for using this
engine is that it is more environmentally friendly, producing less
pollution and using less gas. Already this dynamic duo has broken a
record in being the first persons to cross the Atlantic Ocean in such a
small boat.
Traveling from Chetumal, they stopped in San Pedro to
refuel and after some minor adjustments to their navigation equipment are
bound for Roatan, Honduras and then Panama, the Pacific Coast, Alaska,
Russia, Japan, Asia, India and Europe. Roy is very confident of their
journey and hopes to finish this "Adventure around the World" by autumn
of this year. These brave souls have already seen a large portion of the
world and having seen San Pedro commented, "This is a beautiful island.
It is almost like back home. I definitely want to come back after our
adventure to spend more time here."
We commend Roy and Ove in their quest and
wish them the best of luck. Anyone wishing to follow their route
