In a joint effort by several countries
around the world in trying to preserve and educate the world concerning
the vital role of the rainforest, a new concept of awareness was chosen.
Attention was brought to the rainforest last year by staging the first
ever Miss Rainforest International Pageant. The first time event had the
participation of six contestants from a variety of countries with Miss
Dominican Republic's Silvia Navarro walking away with the crown.
Pageant organizer Miss Nefretery Nancy Juan from San
Ignacio is proud to announce that the Miss Rainforest Pageant 2000 is
well underway and once again promises to be a night to remember. The
event will take place on March
3rd, 2000, at the
Novelo's Convention Center in Santa Elena, Cayo. The pageant is expected
to commence at 7:00 p.m. and will feature the contestants in their
Cultural/Fantasy wear, swimsuit and evening wear. To add a dash of
cultural spice to the evening, Belizean artist Andy Palacio has been
confirmed to perform as well as other local music and dance groups.
Already confirmed are participants from Aruba, Belize,
Bolivia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador,
England, Guatemala, Honduras, Malta,
Nicaragua, Paraguay and USA. The contestants will be arriving in Belize
on February 24th, 2000
and will travel immediately to San Pedro Town where they will be hosted
until the 26th. They
then visit Five Sisters Lodge in the Mountain Pine Ridge Area in the Cayo
District.
This year Belize will be gracefully represented by the
current Miss Queen of the Bay/Miss Rainforest Belize 2000, Samantha
Carlos. The San Pedro Sun will keep you
informed of further details of the Rainforest Pageant.
