The pageant will be the kick-off event of the September Celebrations leading up to Independence Day on September 21st. This year's theme for the celebration is "Remembering Our Struggles - Celebrating Our Triumphs."

Coordinating the pageant is Deputy Mayoress Mel Spain who informed the San Pedro Sun that the San Pedro Town Council is going out of their way to ensure the audience gets a first class act. Scheduled to commence at 8:00 p.m. on September 8th at Central Park the contestants will be making appearances in cultural, swimsuit and evening wear.

Throughout the evening there will be much to eat and drink and entertainment provided by the local dance groups and other surprise entertainers.

The San Pedro Sun is pleased to take this opportunity to introduce the four candidates for the Miss San Pedro 2001 Pageant:

Dilcia Trejo was born in San Pedro and is 17 years old. She is a graduate of San Pedro High School and St. John's College/Junior College. Miss Trejo hopes to further her education, majoring in Biology, in the near future. She is an avid lover of music, dance and reading. "Through the Miss San Pedro Pageant I hope to present myself as a person and gain more knowledge and experience when it comes to stage presentation. I think this is a good first step for me since I am also considering a modeling career. I take this opportunity to invite the people of San Pedro and all visitors to take part in the September Celebrations and to join us on pageant night," Miss Trejo told the San Pedro Sun.

Sixteen year-old Marcia Haylock is originally from Belize City but moved to "La Isla Bonita" when she was a young child. She is presently a Fourth Form commercial student at San Pedro High. Ms. Haylock enjoys various sports, especially football, and also likes to travel.

Margarita Medina is fifteen years old and originally from Punta Gorda. She is a Third Form commercial student at San Pedro High who enjoys reading and having overall fun with her friends. Ms. Medina brings to this pageant her rich Garifuna culture, as a former contestant of the Miss Garifuna San Pedro Pageant.

Geraldine Leslie is a freshman at San Pedro High School. She turns fifteen on September 3rd and hopes that through this pageant she can conquer her stage phobia. She is an active girl who enjoys surfing the web, diving and aerobics. Although Geraldine was born in Corozal, she has lived in San Pedro since the age of five.

The four contestants will be making various outings before the pageant to get better acquainted with each other. The young lady named Miss San Pedro will receive $1000 and a variety of other prizes. The second place winner will receive $500 and the remaining two contestants will each receive $200. In addition, Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality will also receive prizes. The new Miss San Pedro will be crowned at a special coronation ceremony on Independence Day Friday, September 21st, followed by the Citizens Parade.
