unique to the island, lies in the able hands of a very active Carnaval
Committee. Backed by the San Pedro Town Council, Carnaval 2002 promises to be
bigger and better than previous years. To kick-off the celebration, a
magnificent street parade (Brazilian style) is being organized for Saturday,

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the
traditional street painting and comparsas will take place. All schools, social
groups and organizations are invited to join the comparsas in an effort to keep
this tradition alive. On Tuesday, February 12th, first and second prizes will be
awarded to the best comparsas. This specific part of the celebration will take
place at Central Park where food and drinks will be on sale. Prior to the
announcement of the winners, all carnaval enthusiasts are invited to join in the
"Painted Persons Parade."
The committee is still working
on specific details to ensure that Carnaval 2002 will be a spectacular event.
The main objective of the committee and the San Pedro Town Council is to make
Carnaval an affair for EVERYONE - the young and old, the locals and visitors -
EVERYONE! So start practicing those dance moves and planning your costumes for
El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro.
