|"Jolly Roger" shows off lobsters to Miss Lobster Fest Seleni Villanueva
Caye Caulker's annual Lobster Festival was a big hit this year with residents and visitors alike swarming the streets of the tiny caye last weekend enjoying several varieties of lobster, tasty treats and lively entertainment.
Opening the festival on Friday with words of support for the caye's premier event were Minister of Agriculture Honorable Daniel Silva, Belize Tourism Industry Association National President Mike Panton and Area Representative Patty Arceo. Caye Caulker Village Council Chairman Fermin Marin gave the Welcome Address.
"La Isla Cariņosa's" Lobster Festival Pageant highlighted the evening, and resulted in the crowning of lovely Seleni Villanueva as Miss Lobster Fest. Miss Villanueva, a recent graduate of St. Catherine's Academy in Belize City, will attend St. John's College/ Junior College this fall. Also charming the audience at this year's pageant were Melanie Guzman, Roshelle Rivero and Almi Canto, all students of San Pedro High School.
The Punta Rebels pumped up the jump-up on Saturday night and provided the beat for Sunday afternoon. Other activities included the ever-popular punta and bikini contests, and games for all ages.
The Caye Caulker Lobster Fest Committee is to be commended for a well-organized three-day extravaganza of fun. The number of attendees was proof that this year's Lobster Fest was indeed a huge success!
